Drag Coefficients of Irregularly Shaped Particles in Newtonian Fluids

چکیده
An accurate prediction of the settling velocities drill cuttings is essential in effectively designing, running, and optimizing drilling operations. If there no reliable process for modelling drag coefficient, velocity cannot be obtained. In most current literature, particles are assumed to spherical, which can easily modelled. However, this assumption may lead inaccurate results other irregular particle shapes. This paper studies transport behavior by these shapes as variants a bow shape, with numerical simulation approach their coefficients. Separation of particles in non-Newtonian fluids flowing in T-shaped microchannels
Background The flow of suspensions through channel bifurcations is a relevant topic in several applications such as microfluidics and biology. Indeed, a number of microfluidic devices consisting of a main channel with several side branches, aimed at separating particles with different size, has been proposed [1–4]. From the biological side, the microcirculatory network is made of many capillary...
متن کاملTime-periodic Electroosmotic Flow of Non-newtonian Fluids in Microchannels
The alternating current electroosmotic flow of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid is studied in a circular microchannel. A numerical method is employed to solve the non-linear Poisson-Boltzmann and the momentum equations. The main parameters which affect the flow field are the flow behavior index, the dimensionless zeta potential and the dimensionless frequency. At very low dimensionless frequenci...
متن کاملCoordinate Systems for Modeling the Hydrodynamic Resistance and Diffusion Coefficients of Irregularly Shaped Rigid Macromolecules
The analysis of the deterministic motion of a rigid molecule through a quiescent viscous liquid is properly carried out with the origin of coordinates at the center of reaction (CR). In treating the stochastic motions of the diffusion of this same body, however, the center of diffusion (CD) is the appropriate origin. For an irregularly shaped macromolecule, the CR and CD generally do not coinci...
متن کاملAnalysis of Irregularly Shaped Texture Regions
Four different texture classification methods (wavelet-based, co-occurrence matrices-based, 1D-histograms-based, and 1D Boolean model-based) are systematically compared and evaluated with respect to their performance in identifying textures from small and irregular samples. Two sets of 135 complex shape masks (symmetric and nonsymmetric) are created using Fourier shape descriptors, and used to ...
